Why Should Singapore Not Be Complacent in Her Achievements?

After reading the articles, I realised that Singapore could be overtaken by other countries if they become complacent. Being a small country, Singapore does not have much natural resources and thus could be easily overtaken by large countries if Singapore becomes complacent as it could not sell its natural resources to other countries to make money.
Becoming too proud will also prevent other countries from working together with Singapore, thus resulting a slower development, thus resulting lower living standard of its people.
if Singapore does not become complacent, it will continue its development and the living standard of its people will continue to improve, thus resulting a higher living standard of its people.

3-2-1 lesson reflection

3 things I have found out:
1) China started 1 child policy on 1979.

2) China stopped 1 child policy on 2013.

3) Singapore started 2 child policy on 1972.

2 perceptions:

1) It may take a long time before the policies to work.

2) All policies have long time effects.

1 question:

1) Did the leaders in China think of the long time consequences before implementing the 1 child policy?

Chingay Parade 2016 - Lights of Legacy, Bright Singapore

1) What do you think the purpose of Chingay 2016 was?
2) How has this change since the first Chingay and why do you think this change happened?
3) Do you think the organizers have successfully fulfilled this purpose?

1)I think the purpose of Chingay 2016 was to bring together different communities in Singapore while celebrating Chinese New Year. It was also to compensate the ban on firecrackers as a result of fire hazards. Some people felt that the ban would result in a much dampened festival mood for the Chinese New Year period and Chingay parade was thus organised to increase the festival mood. It was also organised to celebrate the birthdays of the Chinese deities or the procession of the Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin).

2)More people from other countries and races have participated in the Chingay performance, this is because more and more people have heard about Chingay and want to participate in it, Singapore has also became more inclusive of people from other country and races, and thus more people from other countries and races started participating in Chingay festival.

3)Yes, they have successfully fulfilled their purpose, they have brought people from different communities in Singapore to go together, as I was watching the show, I could see people of different races performing together and wathing the show together, they have also created a festive mood for Chinese New Year. Thus, I feel that the organisers have successfully fulfilled their purpose.

Poverty and happiness

I think that we are not a happy country. Although most of us have enough money to survive, we do not seem to be happy. As we become richer, we worry about more things. When a man is poor, he only worries how to survive, when he does not have to struggle to survive, he worries about how to get money for the latest smartphone. Happiness has got nothing to do with wealth, it has got more things to do with your desire, and your desire grows when your wealth grows, so it is hard for a man to be happy. When someone finally gets the things he wanted, he will seldom feel satisfied, instead, he will aim for more.

According to the Happy Planet Index, Singapore has a lower HPI than countries like Vietnam, Laos and Thailand which have lower GDPs than Singapore. This shows that being rich will not make you happy.

The extraordinary in the Ordinary

This picture shows a boy taking care of a plant. This may seem ordinary, but there is actually a story behind it.
From what I know about him, he is not that kind of boy who likes to do gardening. However, one day when we walked past the plant in our classroom, he pointed at one of them and said:" Wait a sec, let me water the plants first." I wanted to him to just go for lunch with me but he insisted on watering them. "Plants have their own lives." He said, while pointing at one of them. "The people on duty were so careless! They must have forgotten to water this plant! It is almost withered!" Exclaimed him.
From that day on, he had taken up the initiative to water the plants in the classroom. More and more people were influenced by him and the plants were taken well care. He has demonstrated strong responsibility and have influenced the rest of our classmates.

Tang Shiyuan(29)

I am Shiyuan, the only boy in my CID group. Same as the other 5 girls in the group, I am also from China. There are six people in my group, and five of them are girls. They are Wan Ling Yan(19), Yang Mei Xuan(21), Wang Luqiong(20), Zhang Run Run(22) and Lin Yan(13).
I like basketball and I will ball whenever I am free, and I also watch a lot of NBA. I am currently supporting the Miami Heat. They used to be a good team which competes for the Championship every year, but it all changed when Lebron James decided to go back to the Cleveland Cavaliers after losing the NBA finals to the Spurs in 2014, and all the bandwagon fans went to support the Spurs. I was not one of them and I am glad that they are gone.
My CCA is basketball, but I have to admit that I SUCK despite of me playing a lot. Maybe that's because I started training too late, I joined basketball at the end of last year, and thus have not been trained much. But I beliete that as long as I continue working this hard, I am gonna catch up with them soon.(hope so.)
