1)I think the purpose of Chingay 2016 was to bring together different communities in Singapore while celebrating Chinese New Year. It was also to compensate the ban on firecrackers as a result of fire hazards. Some people felt that the ban would result in a much dampened festival mood for the Chinese New Year period and Chingay parade was thus organised to increase the festival mood. It was also organised to celebrate the birthdays of the Chinese deities or the procession of the Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin).
2)More people from other countries and races have participated in the Chingay performance, this is because more and more people have heard about Chingay and want to participate in it, Singapore has also became more inclusive of people from other country and races, and thus more people from other countries and races started participating in Chingay festival.
3)Yes, they have successfully fulfilled their purpose, they have brought people from different communities in Singapore to go together, as I was watching the show, I could see people of different races performing together and wathing the show together, they have also created a festive mood for Chinese New Year. Thus, I feel that the organisers have successfully fulfilled their purpose.
