Poverty and happiness

I think that we are not a happy country. Although most of us have enough money to survive, we do not seem to be happy. As we become richer, we worry about more things. When a man is poor, he only worries how to survive, when he does not have to struggle to survive, he worries about how to get money for the latest smartphone. Happiness has got nothing to do with wealth, it has got more things to do with your desire, and your desire grows when your wealth grows, so it is hard for a man to be happy. When someone finally gets the things he wanted, he will seldom feel satisfied, instead, he will aim for more.

According to the Happy Planet Index, Singapore has a lower HPI than countries like Vietnam, Laos and Thailand which have lower GDPs than Singapore. This shows that being rich will not make you happy.
